    Abstract

    This study aims to determine: (1) which group had better learning achievement and mathematical communication ability between students who were given Discovery Learning model, Learning Cycle 7E model, or direct learning, (2) which group had better learning achievement and mathematical communication ability between students with visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learning styles, (3) in each learning model, which group had better learning achievement and mathematical communication ability, students with visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learning style categories ( 4) on each type of learning style, which group had better learning achievement and mathematical communication ability, whether students who were given Discovery Learning model, Learning Cycle 7E model, or direct learning. This research was quasi-experimental research. Population in this study was all students of class VIII Junior High School in Surakarta city in the academic year 2016/2017. The sampling technique was done by stratified cluster random sampling and 260 students were obtained with the details of 84 students as experimental class I sample, 85 students as experiment class II sample, and 91 students as sample of control class. Instrument used to collect data was test instrument of mathematics learning achievement, test instrument of mathematical communication ability and questionnaire of student’ learning style. Data was analyzed by using two way MANOVA with unequal cell, two way analysis of variance with unequal cell and Scheffe method. It concluded that: (1) students’ mathematics learning achievement taught by using Discovery Learning model is better than Learning Cycle 7E model and direct learning model, students’ mathematics learning achievement taught by using Learning Cycle 7E model is better than direct learning model, students’ mathematics communication ability taught by using Discovery Learning model is better than Learning Cycle 7E model and direct learning model, students’ mathematics communication ability taught by using Learning Cycle 7E model is as good as those with direct learning model (2) students’ mathematics learning achievement and mathematics communication ability with visual learning style is better than those students with auditory and kinesthetic learning style, students’ mathematics learning achievement and mathematics communication ability with auditory is as good as those kinesthetic learning style (3) in teaching process by using Discovery Learning model, Learning Cycle 7E model, and direct learning model, students’ mathematics learning achievement and mathematics communication ability with visual learning style is better than those students with auditory and kinesthetic learning style, students’ mathematics learning achievement and mathematics communication ability with auditory is as good as those kinesthetic learning style (4) in students with visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles, students’ mathematics learning achievement taught by using Discovery Learning model is better than Learning Cycle 7E model and direct learning model, students’ mathematics learning achievement taught by using Learning Cycle 7E model is better than direct learning model, students’ mathematics communication ability taught by using Discovery Learning model is better than Learning Cycle 7E model and direct learning model, students’ mathematics communication ability taught by using Learning Cycle 7E model is as good as those with direct learning model.
