    Abstract

    A vertical-axis cross-flow wind turbine has a high torque coefficient at a low tip speed ratio. Therefore, it is a good candidate to use as a self-starting turbine. Furthermore, it has an excelent stability and low noise. In order to increase its performance, three types of guide nozzles with profile radius are 315 mm, 515 mm, and straight profile are installed and examined. Three types of guide vanes with entry angle are 9˚, 27˚, and 45˚, and its adopted to the best guide nozzle profile and examined. The result showed that installing guide nozzle was able to improve the power generated by turbine. Adopting guide vane to guide nozzle give more improvement to the power generated. Adopting guide vane with entry angle 45˚ to guide nozzle with bend radius 315 mm produces the highest improvement to the power generated by turbine up to 58.1%.
