    Abstract

    Wiwi Riyanti. BASIC THEATER EXERCISES AS THE LEARNING MODEL TO IMPROVE THE GEGURITAN READING SKILLS AT FIFTH GRADE OF STATE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 2 SUKOMULYO, KEBUMEN IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/2017. Skripsi, Surakarta: Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sebelas Maret University, June 2017. The research aimed to improve the geguritan reading skills by applying basic theater exercises as the learning model at fifth grade of State Elementary School 2 Sukomuyo, Kebumen in the academic year 2016/2017. This research was a classroom action research which was held in three cycles. There were four stage in each cycle, which were planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were a teacher and 21 students from the fifth grade in the second semester of State Elementary School 2 Sukomulyo, Kebumen in the academic year 2016/2017. The data sources were the teacher and the students. The data collecting techniques were in depth interview, observation, and perfomance assessment. Data validity techniques were content validity and triangulation. Data analysis were interactive analysis. Interactive analysis consisted of data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion.drawing. Based on the result of the research, a conclusion is drawn that the use of basic theater exercises as the learning model can improve the geguritan reading skills at fifth grade of State Elementary School 2 Sukomulyo, Kebumen in the academic year 2016/2017. The improvement could be seen by the number of students mastered four aspects in geguritan reading which is pronunciation, intonation, expression, and gesture which increased from pre-action till third cycle. In the pre-action, only 4 or 19,05% skilled students in geguritan reading who mastered four aspects in geguritan reading. Completeness in pronunciation aspect reach 75,38%, intonation aspect reach 65,85%, expression aspect reach 52,38%, and gesture 14,28%. In the first cycle, it increased up to 8 or 28,57% students with completeness in pronunciation aspect reach 76,19%, intonation aspect reach 85,71%, expression aspect reach 61,90%, and gesture 19,05%. In the second cycle, it increased more up to 12 or 57,14% students with completeness in pronunciation aspect reach 95,24%, intonation aspect reach 95,24%, expression aspect reach 76,19%, and gesture 52,38%. In the third cycle, the increasing reached to 80.95% students or 17 students with completeness in pronunciation aspect reach 100%, intonation aspect reach 95,24%, expression aspect reach 90,47%, and gesture 80,95%.
