    Abstract

    Tina Yuberta. A Study on the Professional Competency of Civic Education Teachers and Its Implication to the Students’ Civic Knowledge Mastery in SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar. Thesis. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. October 2016. The objective of research was to find out: (1) the professional competency of Civic Education teachers, (2) the constraint in the improvement of teacher’s professional competency, and (3) the effect of students’ civic knowledge mastery in SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar in the school year of 2016/2017. This study was a descriptive qualitative research. The data source was obtained from informant and document or archive. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Techniques of collecting data used to obtain and to organize the data of research were observation, interview and document analysis. To validate the data in this research, data triangulation and informant review were used. Technique of analyzing data used was an interactive analysis with the following procedures: (1) data reduction, (2) data display, and (3) conclusion drawing or verification. The result of analysis showed that based on academic qualification clarification (1) the Civic Education teachers that were consistent with academic qualification had had good professional competency because they had met the indicator of professional competency; (2) Civic Education teachers that were inconsistent with academic qualification had the good professional competency as well because they had complied with the indicator of professional competency. The constraints in improving the professional competency of Civic Education teachers were: teachers’ financial ability to develop themselves continuously; teachers’ education background; the public’s low appreciation to teacher profession and less participation in the attempt of developing teacher profession; and low quality-oriented work culture so that the teachers work haphazardly. The effect of civic knowledge mastery was good; it can be seen through the students’ learning outcome that obtained value above KKM (Maximum Passing Criteria).
