    Abstract

The study aims to examine: (1) A mathematics learning process at the class X of the Surakarta State Senior High Schools 1 and 4. (2) Whether the Surakarta State Senior High Schools 1 and 4 have employed a student-centered learning. (3) Whether a mathematics learning at the class X of the Surakarta State Senior High Schools 1 and 4 has conformed to a contextual teaching and learning. (4) Whether a mathematics learning at the class X of the Surakarta State Senior High Schools 1 and 4 has conformed to a constructivist learning. The study used a qualitative approach. It means that: (1) This study described a problem related to a mathematics learning at the Surakarta Senior High Schools 1 and 4; (2) It was inductive, meaning that the researcher described a problem based on open data for further study; and (3) It was normal and qualitative. The finding of the study showed that a Design of Learning Process has been applied to each new academic year routinely. A mathematics learning process runs in three stages, including pre-instructional (introduction/early), instructional (core), and assessment. In the evaluation and consecutive stage, the teachers give a task related to the material. In the mathematics learning process, not all of the students take an active part in raising questions and expressing ideas. The Authentic Assessment is not yet useful because of problems with time and more materials. It could be concluded that: (1) A mathematics learning process at Surakarta State Senior High School 1 and 4 has run well and is suitable to the principles of learning, including design, process, evaluation and consecutive. (2) A student-centered learning has run smoothly but it is not as expected. (3) A contextual teaching learning at the Surakarta State Senior High Schools 1 and 4 has employed well but a few components to support it have not been met. (4) A constructivist learning at the Surakarta State Senior High Schools 1 and 4 has not run well. It is recommended that: (1) The teachers need to develop creativity, professionalism, and competency in designing a learning and understanding science and technology so that a student-centered learning can run well. (2) It is suggested that the authentic assessment happens in a mathematics-learning process so that a contextual teaching and learning can work well. (3) A constructivist learning can operate well if learning does not focus on a product but process.
