    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Rizki Darmayanti, D0210100, THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT PUBLIC RELATIONS IN MEDIA RELATION’S ACTIVITY (Descriptive Qualitative Study of The Government Public Relation’s Role in Media Relations Activity as An Effort To Increase The Positive Image Magelang Kota Sejuta Bunga Brand. Skripsi. Communication Department of Social and Political Science Faculty. Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta, August 2017. This research is conducted with the aim to describe the role of government public relations in media relation’s activity to increase positive image of Magelang Kota Sejuta Bunga brand. The role as a communicator, facilitator, and mediator is implicated to media relation’s activity: press release, press conference, press tour, press gathering, media interview and media coverage as an effort to increase the positive image of the brand Magelang Kota Sejuta Bunga. This research is conducted to qualitative study which takes place in Public Relations Department of Magelang Municipality and engaged to seven interviewees, four from internal PR Department and three from different mass media which is related to the Government of Magelang. The method used in data collections are from indepth interview, observations and other documents from the public relation’s department. The data testing uses source triangulation to confirm the statements up from each interviewee so the researcher could make the conclusion. Reverse to communications study, this research focus on one unsure of communication which is Government Public Relations here fulfill the communicator. Based on the research, it shows that the role of communicator is included into giving the informations and making the communication product in media relations activity (press release, press conference, press tour, press gathering, media interview and media coverage). The role of facilitator shows in giving the facilities which is needed by the media. PR as facilitator is functioned to connect the communications between the government and media in media relations activity. The role as mediator shows in PR helps to solve the problems, interpreter communications and as the bridge of communications between government and media during media relations activity. The role of Government PR is also proved to increase the positive image of Magelang Kota Sejuta Bunga Brand up to 70%, since the media published the positive content reverse to the tittle.
