    Abstract

    Black rice can be an alternative sources of functional food because its high antioxidant contents and low glycemic index. Phosphorus (P) is needed by black rice as an energy for metabolism, but P availability is limited because majority of P formed complexes by P fractionation with Al, Fe, Ca, and Mg. This research aimed to asses interaction between azolla and biochar in increasing available P, P uptake, and black rice productivity. The treatments tested in this study were types of azolla (azolla as dual cropping, azolla compost) and biochar. Six treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design in plastic house with four replications. The result showed significant enhancement of available P by azolla as dual cropping, otherwise significant enhancement of P uptake and grain weight were caused by azolla as dual cropping and biochar. 10 tonnes ha-1 azolla as dual cropping obtained highest P availability which was 7.9 ppm or increased 25% compared with control. 10 tonnes ha-1 azolla as dual cropping and 10 tonnes ha-1 biochar (A1B1) increased P uptake of 73.27%. or 21.59 gram/clump. 10 tonnes ha-1 azolla as dual cropping and 10 tonnes ha-1 biochar (A1B1) resulted the highest grain weight, which was 44.59 gram/clump (7.1 tonnes ha-1 equal) or increased 51.2% compared with control.
