    Abstract

    This study aims to determine (1) the way SMA Negeri 2 Karanganyar students present themselves on their Instagram social media accounts; And (2) the reason they use Instagram social media compared to other social media to presentation themselves. The population in this study is all students of SMA Negeri 2 Karanganyar. The sample that is selected is class XII students with purposive sampling sample technique. This research uses qualitative research method with CyberEthnography approach. Data collection was conducted with in-depth interviews and observations. Data analysis using interactive model analysis. By using the dramaturgy theory by Erving Goffman. Goffman in his book also explains that there is a great acting difference when the actor is on stage (front stage) and backstage (back stage). The condition of acting on the front stage is the audience (who sees us) and we are in the performance section. At that time we are trying to play our role as well as possible so that the audience understands the purpose of our behavior. So we like to limit our behavior to make the drama we want to show succeed. Whereas back stage is a state where we are behind the stage of our real behavior or character, with the condition that there is no audience. So that we can behave freely regardless of what kind of behavior we should present. The results are as follows. First, they will try to present themselves as the image / labels they want with real effort (sharing photos and videos, doing live on Instagam, instastory) and virtual efforts (making hashtag pupils and trying to get lots of followers). Secondly, the reason students use social media Instagram to present themselves in because Instagram is a social media that is more superior and broad and has more supportive features.
