    Abstract

    The transmission properties of a new type of sonic crystal element with the coiled hollow tube cover reported in this paper. A sixty-millimeter internal diameter plastic tube was used to form 5 x 3 elements sonic crystal configuration. Each scatterer has a two-millimeter width vertical slit over the body. The secondary resonant scatterer was a transparent plastic hose that wounded in anti-clockwise turn on each scatterer. A pair of quarter-inch microphone used for measuring the calculated intensity spectra of the transmitted wave by using scanning technique. It found that self-collimation occurred on all frequencies and propagated to the specific direction according to the orientation of wounded secondary resonant scatterer. This new finding is very promising for many different applications, including the development of acoustic diode and tunable acoustic lenses.
