    Abstract

Terrorism phenomenon in Indonesia has various motives. The most popular motives are ‘jihad’ and retaliation. In the end of 2016, the public were surprised by a new motive of terrorism: using woman as a ‘bride’ bomber. It is known that terrorism and media have a symbiotic relationship. Therefore, it is interesting to investigate how terrorism is framed in the news as media has the ability in shaping public opinion. This study uses Entman’s concept of framing analysis techniques to investigate how Koran Tempo framed the news about State Palace bomb in 2016 during 10-19 December 2016. The Entman’s concept consists of four points: define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgments, and treatment recommendations. Framing is a method to see how media tell a story about a phenomenon. The news presented in the media is the result of reality construction, not the reality itself. Through the news of terrorism, it is found that the media ideology, may influence the way how media construct reality into a news. The result of this study shows that Koran Tempo construct terrorism news with their ideology or vision. Koran Tempo appear to accentuate Bahrun Naim as the mastermind behind the action plan of the State Palace bomb in their news. Indirectly, Koran Tempo seem to invite readers to think and see what or who the mastermind behind a phenomenon is. Koran Tempo does not focus only on the phenomenon itself, but it also focuses on the proper handling of a problem. Keywords: Framing Analysis, Entman’s concept, Reality concept, Terrorism
