    Abstract

    The purpose of this research to determine : 1) Effect the use of English as language instruction to the biology learning achievement in class X immersion SMA Negeri 4 Surakarta. 2) Influence learning activities on student biology achievement in class X immersion SMA Negeri 4 Surakarta. 3) The interaction between the language of instruction with students' learning activities on biology learning achievement in class X immersion Surakarta SMA Negeri 4. This study is a quasi experiment using the language of instruction and student learning activities as independent variables and student achievement as the dependent variable. The population in this study are all students of class X immersion programs SMA Negeri 4 Surakarta periode 2009/2010. Samples in this study are student of class X-A immersion as the experimental class and student of class X-B immersion as the control class. Sampling was conducted by random cluster sampling from two classes. Techniques to collect data by using the documentation, questionnaires, and tests. Test hypothesis by using two-way anova followed by Scheffe test. The research concluded: 1) There is the influence of the use English as the language of instruction in the learning of biology on the academic achievement of affective and psychomotor domains, but has no effect on cognitive domains of learning achievement. 2) There are the influence of student learning activities to biology learning achievement in aspects of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. 3) There is an interaction between the language of instruction in teaching students with learning activities on student achievement in aspects of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor Keyword: English as a language instruction in learning, student activity
