    Abstract

    This research focuses to investigate the effect of ownership structure and foreign acquisition on risk taking . Ownership structure consist of state-owned banks, regional banks, foreign banks, joint venture banks, and private national banks. Ownership structure and acquisition use dummy variable. While, risk taking has three indicators such as non-performing loans (NPL), return volatility, and Capital adequacy ratio (CAR). By purposive sampling, this research obtained 93 banks sample during the period of 2011-2015 and 10 banks sample which has experienced a foreign acquisition since 2000. This research is using multiple regression analysis with SPSS 16 as analytical tool. The result showed that state-owned banks and regional banks have significant positive effect to bank risk taking. Foreign banks and joint venture banks have significant negative effect to bank risk taking. Then, private national banks have significant negative effect to bank risk taking only in two indicators ( volatility return and CAR). While NPL has significant positive. The foreign acquisition also has significant negative effect to bank risk taking
