    Abstract

    Brown planthopper [BPH, Nilaparvata lugens (Stal) (Homoptera: Delphacidae)] is the most important pests rice. The addition of silica elements is known to increase the strength and hardness of the stem so as to be more resistant to pests either having a type of chewing bite-chewing device or a sucker like a BPH. This study aims to examine the effect of adding silica elements from two different sources to the WBC population on rice cultivation. The study was conducted by field trials in three treatment plots that each plot contained six rice varieties Inpari 13, Beras Merah, Mentik Wangi, Beras Hitam, Rojopusur and Rojolele. The observation variables used were the nymph and imago BPH populations. The results showed that the addition of silica fertilizer was able to increase the resistance of rice plants and significantly affect the decrease of BPH population. The average BPH population is mostly found in Mentik Wangi varieties and at least in Beras Hitam varieties.
