    Abstract

    The objective of this research are: 1) to know the characteristic of module based on discovery learning on respiratory system material to increase generic science skills of student; 2) to test the feasibility of module based on discovery learning on respiratory system material to increase generic science skills of student; 3) to measure the effectiveness of module based on discovery learning on respiratory system material to increase generic science skills of student. This research was research and development study which refers to Borg & Gall procedure that was modified into nine steps. This research was conducted at State Madrasah Aliyah 1 Surakarta academic year 2016/2017. The research involved two 11th grade classes that consisted of 24 students in each class. The classes were selected by using simple random sampling method. The field trials were conducted using pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. The analysis technique used was descriptive qualitative-quantitative. The data was analyzed using T-test by using SPSS Statistics 22. The results show that: 1) module based on discovery learning has characteristics which contains discovery learning syntax and integrated with generic science skills’ aspects in each stage; 2) module based on discovery learning was included to feasible category due to feasibility test of a material expert, a module development expert, and linguist with score 3.54 and it is as excellent category; education professionals with score 3,40 and it is as excellent category; students with score 3.55 and it is as excellent category, as well as through the product testing and revision stages; 3) module based on discovery learning is effective to increase generic science skills because it has been tested by the effectiveness test and got N-gain score result is 0.69 which refers to middle criteria. Result of T test got excellent category with significance level is >0.05. The conclusion based on research that module on respiratory system was corresponding with discovery learning syntax, with feasibility assessment of the experts and the module effectiveness test, and effective as a teaching material to increase generic science skills of student in XI grades of Senior High School/Madrasah Aliyah.
