    Abstract

    A fracture is a condition in which bone continuity is lost, either local or partial. Hydroxyapatite from bovine can be used to repair, replenish, change bone and restore dental tissue. The purpose of this research is to know the material characteristics of hardness, compressive strength, density and porusity of BHA/coffee grounds/shellac material. This research will be conducted purification process of hydroxyapatite from bovine of femur part with process of calcination of temperature 900 °C. Calcined pure HA was mixed with coffee grounds and shellac solution and then compacted with pressure of 974MPa to form specimen with tablet form. The BHA/coffee grounds/shellac specimens were sintered with a temperature of 1000 °C to bind between the hydroxyapatite powders and remove the content of the coffee grounds and shellac pulp. The result of observation of SEM EDX showed the presence of inorganic elements of Ca and P with high intensity and Na, Mg, O and C with low intesitas. Testing of compressive strength and hardness testing indicates that the more BHA blends the higher the value it gets, but the less porusity was formed. From these three observations, the content of coffee grounds and shellac dregs has disappeared completely when sintered and leaving only the content of BHA.
