    Abstract

    WAHYU CANDRA DEWI, NIM D0413053, STRATEGI OF NICOLAS MADURO GOVERNMENT IN MAINTAINING POLITICAL STABILITY IN VENEZUELA POS-CHAVEZ ERA, 2013-2016. International Relations Department, Faculty of Social and Political Science, University of Sebelas Maret, Surakarta. After the death of Chavez, Venezuela is facing the worst economic crises and political turbulence which ever occurred in this country. This research is aimed to examine how the implementation of policy which were taken by Nicolas Maduro as the successor of Hugo Chavez in order to maintain the political stability in Venezuela. The topic is chosen because the phenomenon of politics instability which is oaccured after the death of Chavez was the latest range of phenomenon and intersting to be investigated furthert. This study used qualitative approach by using library research and interview as the data collecting technique. Data analysis draws on qualitative analysis consisted of multiple steps such as data collection, data reduction, data displays, and conclusion drawing. Data validation uses the triangulation and peer-debriefing. The conceptual framework of this research departs from politic legitimacy concept, civil-state relations, public policy making model, implementation of public policy by Grindle, and foreign policy making model II by Graham T. Allison. The result of the research shows that public policies which were taken by the government of Nicolas Maduro was not effective in maintaining political stability in Venezuela. This condition was proved by the level of inflation which is still high, the fast development of balck market, and hunger and scarcity of basing good which still cannot be undone. These entire situations made the politic legitimacy of Nicolas Maduro Government started to be questioned and the civil-state relations worsened. Eventually, until 2017, the movement in order to demand referendum was soaring. Besides, the research showed that in the foreign policy making, Maduro’s Government tend to using policy which is typical with what had been made in the Chavez era.
