    Abstract

    Lettuce is one of vegetable that has quite promising market prospects. Increased market demand is not offset by increased lettuce production. The obstacles faced, is inadequate land and quality. One way to overcome these obstacles is lettuce cultivation on hydroponic substrate. Substrates that could potentially be used in hydroponic cultivation is a substrate of arenga fiber waste. Hydroponics is closely related to media and nutrient solution. Nutrient solution acts as a source of nutrients to fulfil crop needs. This study aims to determine the interaction between arenga fiber media with nutrients. The research was conducted in greenhouse and screen house of Agriculture Faculty of UNS in August to November 2016. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors, the size of arenga fiber and nutrient. Variables measured are plant height, leaf number, leaf area, chlorophyll content, plant fresh weight, dry weight of plants, root length and root volume. The results showed differences size of fiber had influence on leaf area, fresh weight and dry weight of plants. Nutrition AB mix EC 3 mS/cm gives the best effect on all variables except chlorophyll content. The best treatment is combination of fiber length 1 (12,97 ± 3,73 cm) and nutrition AB mix EC 3 mS/cm in variable plant height 21,82 cm, dry weight of plants 3,61 gram, and root length 14,22 cm.
