      Abstract

      Ana Rohmawati. K7113015. IMPROVING DESCRIPTIVE WRITING SKILLS USING POP-UP BOOK AS A MEDIA FOR SECOND GRADER OF SD NEGERI BRATAN 2 SURAKARTA AT 2016/2017 ACADEMIC YEAR. Minithesis, Faculty of Education and Teaching Training Programs. Sebelas Maret University of Surakarta. July 2017. The purpose of this research is to improve descriptive writing skills using Pop-Up Book. Further, it also aims at developing the quality of teaching learning process which focuses on student’s activities in Bahasa Indonesia class. The type of this research is classroom action research (CAR), it conducted in three cycles. Each cycles was consist of four phases, there are planning, action implementation, observation and reflection. The subject of this study is teacher and students in class II of SD Negeri Bratan 2 at 2016/2017 academic year amounting 34 students and a classroom teacher. The technique to collection data is documentation, observation, interviews, and test. The validity test of this research used content validity, triangulation of resources and triangulation on techniques. Meanwhile, the technique to analyze data is descriptive comparative and analysis interactive model, which consist of three components, namely data reduction, presentation of data, and drawing conclusions (verification). The result shows the development of the average class in every cycle. The average class grade of descriptive text writing where in pracycle was only 65,79 increased into 82,3 in cycle I, it increased again in cycle II into 87, then in cycle III increased into 90,5. Based on the results of research that has been implemented, it can be concluded that the application of pop-up book media can improve descriptive writing skills of the second grader SD Negeri Bratan 2 Surakarta class II at 2016/2017 academic year.
