      Abstract

      ABSTRACT Inko Frilanka, D1210037, Diffusion and Adoption of Trail Motor Innovation (A Study on Trail Motor Innovation Diffusion and Adoption in “Gajah Mungkur Trabas Club (GMTC)” Sekti Community in Wonogiri Regency). Thesis. Communication Science Study Program, Social and Political Sciences Faculty, Surakarta Sebelas Maret University, 2014. Gajah Mungkur Trabas Club (GMTC)” Sekti Community in Wonogiri Regency is the first trail motor lover community in Wonogiri. Trail motor innovation is made on such parts of motor as suspension, body, equipment and machine. This study explained the trail motor innovation diffusion process in Gajah Mungkur Trabas Club (GMTC)” Sekti Community and the adoption process by the members of community. In addition, this study also aimed to find out the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting the diffusion and adoption processes of trail motor innovation. It could be seen from the result of research obtained in the field through questionnaire, interview and observation result. Through a variety of communication channels in certain period of time, innovation message can be delivered to all members of Gajah Mungkur Trabas Club (GMTC)” Sekti Community in Wonogiri Regency. The innovation decision process by the members also runs well through the existing adoption stages. From the result of research, communication channel played an important role in innovation and adoption processes, because it is through communication channel that the new ideas were transmitted from the source to other members of social system. The innovation and adoption process of Trail Motor in Gajah Mungkur Trabas Club (GMTC)” Sekti Community in Wonogiri Regency included the diffusion of information or new idea concerning trail motor in the term of modification to the Gajah Mungkur Trabas Club (GMTC)” Sekti Community through communication in certain period of time. The effective communication channels used were, among others, trail motor exhibition, trail motor race, and word of mouth. Not all members of Gajah Mungkur Trabas Club (GMTC)” Sekti Community in Wonogiri Regency passed through orderly the stages suggested by Rogers M. Everett including: knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation and confirmation. The factors supporting the diffusion included individual and communication behavior variables. Meanwhile the inhibiting factors included social economic condition of innovation target and different social economic needs. Trabas activity was an enjoyable but risky activity when the preparation was conducted less maximally. For that reason, the members of Gajah Mungkur Trabas Club (GMTC)” Sekti Community should participate in adopting the trail motor innovation diffusion process for the sake of their safety and comfort.
