    Abstract

    Analysis of Rhodamine B at Red Colored Syrup Distributed in Sragen City Novel Fibriani Lukitasari Diploma of Pharmacy, Faculty of Mathematic and Sciences Sebelas Maret University ABSTRACT Rhodamine B is a dye substance that is prohibited to use in food. The use of synthetic dyes has been regulated by the Regulation of the Minister of Health of Republic Indonesia 239/Menkes/Per/V/85, but the use of banned synthetic colors still has been found. The coloring materials are usually from synthetic substances which are generally used as paper dyes, textiles, and ink. The aim of study was to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of rhodamine B at red colored syrup were not registered by BPOM in Sragen city. Rhodamine B consist of heavy metal able to cause iritation, having character of carcinogenic, and in high concentration cause damage of kidney and liver. This study was descriptive research which was done in laboratory. There were five samples had been analyzed. Samples were extracted by Liquid-liquid extraction method. The qualitative identification of rhodamine B had been done by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) method with n-butanol, ethyl acetate, ammonia (10:4:5) v/v/v as eluent. Quantitative analysis was done by ultraviolet visible spectrofotometric at maximum wavelength of 557,4 nm. Identification of banned synthetic color showed that five samples were not contain rhodamine B. However careful consumtion of red syrup that is necessary.
