## Abstract

ABSTRACT Bangun Faqih Hakim, K1310017, THE ANALYSIS OFMATHEMATICAL PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITIES OF THE STATE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 16 SURAKARTA STUDENT ON THE SUBJECT LESSON OF PLANESBASED ON KRULIK AND RUDNICK’S STEP IN TERMS OF MATHEMATICS ANXIETY LEVEL. Thesis.Surakarta : Teacher Training an Education Faculty. Sebelas Maret University. 2017. The objectives of this research are to determine (1) problem solving of the students who belong to have high math anxiety on the material of the triangle and rectangle based on Krulik and Rudnick’s step, (2) problem solving of the students who belong to have moderate math anxiety on the material of the triangle and rectangle based on Krulik and Rudnick’s step, (3) problem solving of the students who belong to have low math anxiety on the material of the triangle and rectangle based on Krulik and Rudnick’s step. This research is a qualitative descriptive research because the results of the research are in the form of written or spoken of descriptive data. The research subjects are six 8th-A grade students of State Junior High School 16 Surakarta on second semester school year 2016/2017, the subjects are two students of each category. The mathematics anxiety questionnaire is used to categorize the level of the studentanxiety on mathematics. The resources of data in this research are the words and actions of the respondents, called the task-based interview. The data were validated using time triangulation. The steps of data analyze are data reduction, presentation, and conclusion (verification). The results of research are as follows : 1) the subjects with high level anxiety on mathematics are capable to carry out the read and think and explore and plan process very well. On the next step, the subjects still have some difficulties on choosing the right first step to solve the problem. On the next step, the finding answer, the subjects did some mistake on mathematical computation such as difficulties on finding right formula or doing an inaccurate calculation. Then, the subjects were not able to do reflect and extend process on the work they did. 2) The subjects on moderate level mathematics anxiety are capable to do the whole Krulik and Rudnick’s step of problem solving, although the subject in this category still have experienced some difficulties doing the mathematical computation, this can be seen on the mistakes the subjects did on the computation or the inaccurate calculation while doing their work. In thereflect and extend phase, the subjects only checked the calculation of their work without knowing if the solution are correct or wrong. Thus, the subjects in this category do not doreflect and extendphase properly. 3) The subjects on the low level mathematic anxiety are able to do almost all the whole Krulik and Rudnick’s step of problem solving correctly. But, the subjects on the low level mathematics anxiety still have a difficulty deciding the conclusion of the solution eitherthe correct or the wrong answer.
