    Abstract

THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE UNDERSTANDING OF LIGHT CHARACTERISTIC CONCEPT USE CONTEXTUAL TEACHING AND LERARNING (CTL) LEARNING MODEL (Classroom Action Research on Grade V SDN Mangkubumen Kidul No. 16 Surakarta Academic Year 2016/2017). Essay. Surakarta: Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. May 2017. The purpose of this research is to improve the understanding of the concept of the properties of light through Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) learning model on the students of SDN Mangkubumen Kidul No. 16 Surakarta academic year 2016/2017. This research is a classroom action research conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The subject of this research is the teacher of grade V SDN Mangkubumen Kidul No. 16 Surakarta and students of grade V of SDN Mangkubumen Kidul no. 16 Surakarta totaling 36 students. The data source comes from teachers, students and documents. Data collection techniques used were observation, interview, test and documentation. The data validity used is triangulation of source and triangulation technique. The data analysis used is interactive analysis. The results showed the achievement of understanding the concept of the light characteristic of grade V SDN mangkubumen kidul no. 16 Surakarta academic year 2016/2017 as evidenced by the increase of understanding value of the concept of light characteristic. Results Average grade values before action amounted to 64.58; on first cycle rose to 81.08 and on the second cycle rose to 92.36. Based on the results of the research shows that the learning model of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) can improve the understanding of the concept of light properties of grade V SDN Mangkubumen Kidul No. 16 Surakarta academic year 2016/2017.
