    Abstract

    Parameters in the Friction Stir Welding such as the rotational speed and welding speed can affect the quality of weld. The maximum temperature which can be generated from the FSW process is 80% of the melting point temperature of the work piece material. FSW modeling with ANSYS CFX had been chosen to simplify and reduce cost of research. This study was purposed to determine the effect of rotational speed and welding speed concerning the temperature distribution and viscosity in the process of FSW AA2024. The highest temperature was in the advance side for all variations. The highest temperature distribution and lowest viscosity occurred at rotational speeds of 1600 rpm and transverse speed of 35 mm/min. The temperature distribution will be increased with increasing rotational speed and the temperature distribution will be decreased with increasing the welding speed.
