    Abstract

    A simple and relatively quick procedure for the oxidation of benzyl alcohol has been carried out. The oxidation was performed using CrO3 supported by alumina with the addition of small amount of t-butanol at room temperature under stirring and sonication methods. Identification of the products was done by FTIR and GC-MS for stirring method. Whereas, identification for the sonication method was performed by FTIR and GC. Both of the methods gave benzaldehyde as the product in 92% and 84% for stirring and sonication methods, respectively.
