    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Nasrul Hudayah, EFFECT OF FLY ASH UTILIZATION AS PARTIAL REPLACEMENT FOR FINE AGGREGATE TO THE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH, DENSITY, AND WATER ABSORPTION OF FOAMED LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE FOR LIGHTWEIGHT STRUCTURAL WALL. Thesis, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta. April 2016.. The aims of this study are, (1) Determine the effect of fly ash as a partial replacement for fine aggregate on compressive strength of foamed lightweight concrete, (2) Determine the effect of fly ash as a partial replacement of fine aggregate to the density of foamed lightweight concrete (3) Determine the effect of fly ash as a partial replacement for fine aggregate on water absorption of foamed lightweight concrete, (4) Determine the optimal percentage of fly ash in order to achieve maximum compressive strength of foamed lightweight concrete according to SK SNI 03-3449-2002 lightweight concrete, (5) Determine the optimal percentage of fly ash in order to achieve minimum density of foamed lightweight concrete according to SK SNI 03-3449-2002 lightweight concrete, (6) Determine the optimal percentage of fly ash in order to achieve minimum water absorption of foamed lightweight concrete according to SNI 03-0349-1989 concrete brick for wall system. This research was using experimental quantitative research methods and the data was analized using simple linear regression. Variables in this study were divided into (1) dependent variables: compressive strength; density; and water absorption of foamed lightweight concrete, (2) independent variables: percentage of fly ash utilization as partial replacement with a variation of 0%, 15%, 30%, 45%, and 60% from the needs of fine aggregate. The result of this study showed that, (1) Variation of fly ash utilization as partial replacement of fine aggregate was strongly influencing the compressive strength of foamed lightweight concrete. Fly ash utilization as partial replacement for fine aggregate increasing foamed lightweight concrete compressive strength at fly ash percentage of 0% - 30 and decreasing compressive strength at fly ash percentage of 45% - 60%. (2) Variation of fly ash utilization as a partial replacement of fine aggregate was strongly influencing the density of foamed lightweight concrete. Fly ash utilization as partial replacement for fine aggregate decreasing the density at fly ash percentage of 0% - 60% (3) Fly ash as partial replacement of fine aggregate was strongly influencing water absorption of foamed lightweight concrete. Fly ash as partial replacement of fine aggregate increasing water at fly ash percentage of 0% - 60%. This was caused by too much addition of water. (4) Optimum variation of fly ash utilization is 30.25%, which resulted a maximum compressive strength of 8.207 Mpa, counted as quality of lightweight concrete for lightweight structural wall according to SK SNI 03-3449-2002. (5) There is no optimum variation of fly ash utilization to gain minimum density. Quality requirement of lightweight concrete for lightweight structural wall according to SK SNI 03-3449-2002 was at fly ash addition percentage of 30%, 45% and 60%, which resulting the density of 1379,114 Kg/m³, 1268,302 Kg/m³ and 1239,611 Kg/m³ (6) There is no optimum variation of fly ash utilization to gain minimum water absorption, while the water absorption which meets the quality I in accordance with SNI 03-0349-1989 concrete for wall system was at all percentage of fly ash addition and resulting water absorption at 13,757%, 13,909%, 14,658%, 16,059% dan 20,126% Keywords : fly ash, foamed lightweight concrete, compressive strength, density, water absorption
