    Abstract

    Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the ten most common causes of disability in disease sufferers in developing countries. Osteoarthritis physical symptoms such as pain can have a negative effect on the quality of life of sufferers of both aspects of physical symptoms, moods, and social. Research on the relationship of individual factors such as nutritional status and food intake of the quality of their life is rare. The Objective of the study was to analyze the relationship of dietary inflammatory index and body mass index to the quality of life of elderly patients with osteoarthritis. Methods: This type of study was an analytic observational with cross sectional design. The independent variables in this study is dietary inflammatory index and body mass index, while the dependent variable is the quality of life. Subject of the study were 63 patients with osteoarthritis who undergo outpatient PKU Muhammadiyah hospital in Yogyakarta. The analysis used multiple linear regression. Result: Patients OA elderly men and women each have an average dietary inflammatory index of 0.2 ± 1.3 and 0.3 ± 1.5. The mean body mass index of elderly patients with OA of both men and women of 22.6 ± 4.1 kg / m². The mean quality of life of elderly patients with OA of both men and women by 4.7 ± 0.8. There is a positive and significant relationship between the index of inflammatory diet with a body mass index (r = 0.359 and p = 0.004). There was a negative and significant correlation between body mass index and quality of life (r = -0.484 and p = 0.001). There is a significant relationship between inflammation index diet and body mass index to the quality of life of elderly patients with osteoarthritis (p = 0.001). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between inflammation index diet and body mass index with the quality of life in elderly patients with osteoarthritis.
