    Sri Setiyo Ningrum. S021502046. Analysis of Psychosocial Factors and Local Cultures Affecting the Use of Long Term Contraception Methods in Sukoharjo Regency. Thesis. Main Supervisor I: Dono Indarto dr., M.Biotech.St., Ph.D, AIFM Co-Supervisor II: Dr. Mahendra Wijaya, MS. Master Program in Public Health, Postgraduate of Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta. ABSTRACT Background: Rapid population growth results in unequal distribution of population and arises various social problems. The theory of planned behavior supports individual to choose contraception methods and the model precede proceed supports in conducting concurrent contraception services. Some studies have showed that personality, education, occupation, religion, family support, and local culture are associated with services of long term contraception methods. This research study aimed to analyze psychosocial factors and local culture affecting the use of long term contraception methods in Sukoharjo Regency. Subjects and methods: The descriptive qualitative study with a phenomenology approach was used in this study. The main informant was acceptors who used implants, IUD, female surgical method (MOW) and male surgical method (MOP) in four primary health centers in Sukoharjo Regency. Data were collected through Focus Group Discussion (FGD), in-depth interviews, observation and document analysis. Data analysis used an interactive analysis of qualitative model and data verification used triangulation technique resources with the office of empowerment of women and family planning (KPPKB) Sukoharjo Regency, builder of family planning aids (PPKB), builder of family planning helper village (PPKBD)/sub village clinic (SKD), community leaders, religious figures and the village midwifes. Results: Extrovert personality was easier in deciding the use of of long term contraseption methods. Informants who had education at least secondary school and worked prefer the use of long term contraception methods. Religion strongly influenced informants who chose the MOW/MOP because Islamic law prohibits pregnancy termination. Couples supported the use of long term contraception methods because their contraceptive insertion requires medical procedures. Service facilities affected the use of long term contraception methods. Local cultures which were more children more fortune and children look after their old parents existed in the community. Community leaders gave support in decision to use long term contraception methods. Conclusion: Psychosocial factors and local cultures contribute in choosing the use of long term contraception methods in Sukoharjo Regency. One family planning officer ideally covers two villages and routine training for village midwives is required for improvement of family planing services.
