    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Falaah Husna Khuluqi. C1012010. The Usage of Egyptian Female and Male’s Written Language on Facebook Status. Undergraduate Thesis: Arabic Department Faculty of Culture Science Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta. This research aimed to describe: 1) forms of the language usage used in facebook status by Egyptian women and men, 2) topics of discussion which appears in facebook status of Egyptian women and men, and 3) the function of facebook status made by Egyptian women and men. The research data was taken from 56 facebook accounts, 27 women accounts and 31 men accounts. The data used over 120 facebook status, 60 women and 60 men facebook status. This research used descriptive qualitative method. In collecting data, the observation method is used. Then, data classified and analysed based on Lakoff’s theory (1975). While, language function analysed based on Holmes’s theory (2013). Afterwards, data analysis result presentation used an informal presentation The results showed that: 1) five of ten linguistic features based on Lakoff (1975) was found in this research, which used by Egyptian women in facebook status, those are empty adjectives, lexical hedges, intensifiers, hypercorrect grammar, and super polite form. While the men were found using four linguistic features those are empty adjectives, intensifiers, hypercorrect grammar, and super polite form. In sentence usage, women and men used jumlah ismiyyah and fi’liyyah relatively same. Text size which made by women and men tend to same number. 2) Topics that appear in facebook status of Egyptian women and men, those are wisdom words, advises, quotation, diaries, thanksgiving, greetings, love, prayer, education, welcomes, Islamic festal day and motto. 3) Language function which found in Egyptian women and men facebook status, those are expressive, directive, referential, poetic, phatic, and not found metalinguistic. In this research found that mostly status function of Egyptian women and men are to provide information and give some opinion in their facebook status.
