    Abstract

    This research aims to (1) Test the value of Hardness the composite brake pad coconut shell powder (2) To test the rate of wear of the composite brake pad coconut shell powder, (3) Test the value of the lifetime of the composite brake pad coconut shell when applied on a motorcycle. This research uses experimental methods with the data analysis techniques in the form of a descriptive analysis. Testing the value of hardness Brinell testing conducted using, the rate of wear of the composite brake pad coconut shell powder testing road test. The population in this study is the composite brake pad with the composition of coconut shell powder, powdered Aluminium (Al), by tampering with the matrix of epoxy resins. The sample in this study is the composite brake pad with 30% of powder material composition of coconut shell powder, 30% aluminum, 20% by tampering with the matrix in the form of 40% epoxy resins. Comparison of brake pad materials mixture using a mass comparison The results of this research are (1) The value of Hardness the composite brake pad coconut shell powder approached the brake pad that are on the market, where the Brinell Hardness test results of composite brake pad coconut shell powder 12.63 and brake pad Indoparts 12.67 so composite brake pad coconut shell powder can be applied on a motorcycle (2) The rate of wear of the composite brake pad coconut shell powder reaches 0.00049 mm/km. (3) Age of composite brake pad coconut shell powder approached 10,000 km where the results of the calculation of the age of composite brake pad coconut shell powder with 5 mm thick can be used achieving 9,183 km or 63,362 times braking, so the composite brake pad coconut shell powder can be applied directly on the motorcycle.
