    Abstract

    The installation of cross flow wind turbine with flat blades in an enclosure above a cooling tower was used to recover the wasted energy from the cooling tower. Adding guide vanes had a function to increase the performance of the cross flow wind turbine by manipulate the air flow around it. The objectives of this experiment were to determine the effect of blade angle and vertical position of cross flow wind turbine, also to find out the effect of guide vane’s angle on the performance of wind turbine. The model of turbine was made on scale down with 400 mm diameter and 380 mm height. The results showed blades of cross flow wind turbine with a slope angle of 60 ° had the best performance compared to other blades angle. At the variation of turbine vertical position, the best vertical position occurred on the y-axis of 30 mm. The results also showed that the guide vane could improve the performance of wind turbin with increasing in shaft power up to 26% with coefficient of power,Cp of 0.28 and tip speed ratio,λ, of 0.97
