    Abstract

    This study aims to describe the lexicon of dates in Saudi Arabia and also to describe Saudi Arabian’s perspectives about dates. The research data was taken from 100 lexicons of dates in Saudi Arabia contained in the book "Date Palm Tissue Culture and Genetical Identification of Cultivars Grown in Saudi Arabia" by Al-Khalifah et.al. (2013). Data were analyzed with translational identity method (Metode Padan Translasional), componential analysis and ethnomedicine study as well. The results showed that the lexicon of dates can be classified into five categories there are based on the growth process, shape, color, taste, and region of origin. Dates, as ethnomedicine of Saudi Arabian were found the benefits of treatment in curing the disease. The disease can be cured by various kinds of dates such as Khudri>, ‘Ajwah, Nabtah ‘Ali>, Khola>sh, Shaq’i, Sukkariy, ‘Usailah, Barchi, and Umul-Khasyab. Mean while, diseases that can treated by dates were found 28 types of diseases. The type of diseases can be classified into 4 group there are based on chronic disease, unchronic disease, addressing parts of the body, and mental condition. There are two types of herb that used to treat deseases, single herb and mixture herb. Keywords: Dates, Saudi Arabia, Lexicon, Ethnomedicine
