    Abstract

    Background: The scope of exclusive breast milk in Sukoharjo is of 39.05% (2015), while the national target is 80%. The data indicates that the scope of exclusive breast milk in Sukoharjo has not yet reach the national target. In Sukoharjo Hospital, from 10 post-partum mothers, 6 respondents (60%) state that at the first day their breast milk has not come out yet. The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of breast care and oxytocin massages towards breast milk production of post – partum mothers at Sukoharjo hospital. Subjects and method: This study applied true- experimental with pretest – posttest control group design with Randomize Controlled Trial (RCT). The study was conducted from 19 October until November 18, 2016 at Sukoharjo Hospital. The population of the research is post – partum mother. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling, the sample are 90 post – partum mothers. The exogenous variables are breast care and oxytocin massage. Whereas, the endogenous variable is the production of breast milk. The instrument to collect the data is a check list, and the data analysis is using IBM SPSS 22. Results: Based of the data, it was found that breast care and oxytocin massage increase breast milk production. The increase of breast milk production from post-partum mothers who got breast care and and oxytocin massage is greater (mean = 17.37, SD = 9.70) compare to post-partum mothers who did not get breast care and and oxytocin massage (mean = 1.58,SD = 1.69). The difference is statistically significant at p <0.001. Conclusion: From the finding, it can be concluded that breast care and oxytocin massage gave an effect on increasing the production of breast milk. Furthermore, it is expected for the health care personnel to carry out breast care and oxytocin massage to the post-partum mothers to increase their breast milk production.
