    Abstract

    The purpose of this research was to (1) improve student activity and (2) improve learning achievement through the application of direct learning model completed with discussion and media hyperchem on the subject chemical bond X 1 on SMA Islam 1 Surakarta in the academic year 2016/2017. This research was a Classroom Action Research which consisted of two cycles, each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subject was the student of class X 1 SMA Islam 1 Surakarta 2016/2017. Data was collected from interview, observation, test, and questionnaire. The data analysis technique used was qualitative descriptive analysis. The result of the research showed that the application of direct learning completed with discussion and media hyperchem can improve: (1) students’ activity on the chemical bond. It can be seen from the result percentage students’ activity in cycle I was 92,59%. (2) the students’ achievement on chemical bond. The improvement of students’ achievement cognitive aspect increase from 14,82% in cycle I to 77,78% in cycle II, the affective aspect percentage in cycle I was 88,88%.
