    Abstract

ABSTRACT Paddy field is a type of land use, which the management requires a puddle and managed in such a way for the cultivation of rice. The rice productivity of Karanganyar had increased of each year for the years of 2011-2013, but in 2014 had declined. Assessment of soil quality can be seen from the characteristics of the physical, chemical, and biological of soil. The aims of this study was determining the parameters of physical, chemical, and biological which was influencing the quality of rice land in Karanganyar using Soil Quality Index calculation, and also determining the relationship of soil quality index and rice productivity. This study was a descriptive exploratory research conducted through field surveys. Soil sampling location determined by purposive sampling method. Analysis of data used Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The result showed that the quality of the soil in paddy fields in Karanganyar were in good class. Soil quality parameters which were influencing the soil quality were cation exchange capacity (CEC), organic C, P-available, and soil pH. Soil quality index was not affecting the productivity of rice because they were in the same class. Key words: productivity of paddy, soil quality, Principal Component Analysis
