    Abstract

    ABSTRACT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MTHFR GENE POLYMORPHISMS AND SEVERITY SYMPTOMS OF BIPOLAR DISORDER PATIENTS IN RSJD SURAKARTA Irwansyah, M.F .; Fanani, M. Department of Psychiatry FK UNS / Dr. Muwardi Hospital Surakarta Preliminary Development of medical science in the spirit of this world now widely studied issues genetic factors included bipolar disorder. Several genetic polymorphisms are thought to increase the risk of these disorders among the MTHFR gene (Methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase). There has been a lot of research on the relationship of genetic polymorphism in the MTHFR with bipolar disorder in multiple populations, but each study showed inconsistent results. Aim To determine the relationship of MTHFR gene polymorphisms with the severity of symptoms in patients with bipolar disorder in RSJD Surakarta. Method This research is an analytic observational study with cross sectional approach has been implemented in August 2016 RSJD Surakarta. The subjects examined were bipolar disorder patients with examination of MTHFR gene polymorphisms using PCR-RFLP (Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism) and bipolar symptom severity ratings using the YMRS (Young Mania Rating Scale). Research result This study obtained 18 subjects of bipolar disorder with positive MTHFR gene polymorphism and was not obtained subjects with negative polymorphism. Thus performed linear regression analysis of the variables gender, onset and psychotic / nonpsychotic againts YMRS score. From bivariate analyzes, gender variable with p: 0.32; onset variables with p: 0.566; variable psychotic / nonpsychotic with p: 0.002. Variables that can be included in the analysis of linear regression just sex and onset because of p> 0.25. Obtained onset correlation coefficient 0.097 (positive correlation strength is very weak), the correlation coefficient of sexes -0.236 (negative correlation strength is weak). Conclusion In these studies could not be concluded because it can not be analyzed statistically
