    ABSTRACT Sophia Erawati. 2007. REMOVAL OF HEAVY METAL IONS USING BIOSURFACTANT PRODUCT OF BIOTRANSFORMATION SOYBEAN OIL BY Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Thesis. Mathematics and Science Faculty. Sebelas Maret University. Removal of heavy metal ions using biosurfactant product of biotransformation soybean oil by Pseudomonas aeruginosa had been studied. This research was conducted to study the effect of initial pH solution and the time contact to the ability of biosurfactant in removing Pb, Cd, and Cu. Processes were conducted in batch method. Atomic absorption spectroscopy was used to determine the concentration of metal ions. The loading of metal ions was determined by counting the difference between Pb, Cd, and Cu concentration before and after the removal process. Removal Pb using crude biosurfactant (crude biospasoy) and partial purification biosurfactant (chlo- biospasoy) had been done. The result showed that the percentage removal Pb of crude biospasoy and chlo-biospasoy almost the same, so that crude biospasoy was used for the next experiment. The variation of initial pH were 2, 4, and 6 and variation of the time contact were 0, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 60 minutes. The result showed that the removal process of Pb reached optimum condition in pH 4 and the time contact was 5 minutes with the value of capacity removal was 0.3130 mg/g. Removal process of Cd reached optimum condition in pH 6 and the time contact was 10 minutes with the value of capacity removal was 0.1693 mg/g. Removal process of Cu reach optimum condition in pH 6 and the time contact was 10 minutes with the value of capacity removal was 0.1149 mg/g. From the result of three metal ions removal obtained optimum condition for removing of competitive metals was at pH 4 and the time contact 10 minutes, result showed that the value capacity of removal was 0.4876 mg/g for Pb, 0.2389 mg/g for Cd, and 0.0275 mg/g for Cu. The removal of silver industry waste water was conducted at pH 4 and time contact 10 minutes. The value of capacity for removal waste water was 0.2106 mg/g for Pb, 0.0379 mg/g for Cd, and 0.1152 mg/g for Cu.
