    Abstract

    Cattleya Zahrunisa, 2016, USE OF NEW MEDIA BY CONVENTIONAL MEDIA RADIO (Case Study on Utilization Patterns of Social Media Twitter by Public Broadcasting Institutiton RRI Banten94.9 FM for Dissemination of Information) As the technology advances, the mass media of radio has also growth. The emergence of the internet makes conventional mass media radio can be more easy to disseminate information to a wider audience. Dissemination of information by the Internet, one of them can be done by using social media Twitter. Public Broadcasting Institution (PBI) RRI Banten 94.9 FM is a governments radio that using social media Twitter to disseminate information through Twitter account @RRIBanten. This study aims to determine the role of RRI Banten’s Twitter and utilization patterns conducted by an agency of government-owned mass media to the Twitter account. The convergence of media makes the conventional mass media entering the world of new media for the sake of existence. This study refers to the Media Convergence theory that talks about a merger of the media that are used for the same purpose. In this case, RRI Banten as an old media is using Twitter social media so that government-owned radio would become part of the digital media. This study used descriptive qualitative approach with case study method. Selection of informants did by purposive sampling This study takes the mass media radio Public Broadcasting (PBI) RRI Banten 94.9 FM as a research object and choose a person in charge of RRI Banten 2012-2016 period named Karsila, S.E, also six broadcasters there are Puspita Gita (Gita), Hasniar Rahmawati (Niar), Risma Personal Tangguh (Digi), Ari Susanto (Argan), Lusi Ramadhani (Citra), and Moch. Dede Firdaus (Dede) as informants. The study was conducted by using in-depth interviews and triangulation of sources from RRI Banten Twitter pages, as well as documentation, books, and other data related to the research. The results of this research that there are three roles of RRI Banten’s Twiter in disseminating information such as media dissemination of news; media dissemination of promotional activities of "Radio Star Indonesia", the song being played, and simultaneous playback tracks; and also as an interactional media between the listeners of RRI Banten, Twitter followers, and stakeholders. Besides that, there are three aspects in utilization patterns of RRI Banten’s Twitter including the activity of utilization, the way to utilizatiate, and the contents of the message (tweet). Furthermore, the three aspects of the utilization pattern described more fully by including three rolesof RRI Banten’s Twitter in disseminating information.
