    Abstract

    The problems discussed in this research is how the representation of workers in the poem by Wiji Thukul? The purpose of this study was to find out the representation of workers in the poem by Wiji Thukul. This research using descriptive method with qualitative approach. Sources of primary data in this study is a book titled "Aku Ingin Jadi Peluru" published by IndonesiaTera in 2004. Secondary data sources obtained through the study of literature and articles on the internet. The object of research is ten poems by Wiji Thukul entitled: “Sajak kepada Bung Dadi,” “Lingkungan Kita Si Mulut Besar,” “Kuburan Purwoluyo,” “Kampung,” “Gunung Batu,” “SUTI,” “Ayolah Warsini,” “Teka-teki yang Ganjil,” “Satu Mimpi Satu Barisan,” dan “Nonton Harga.” The analysis using Roland Barthes’s textual analysis, a semiotic method. Step analysis: (1) cut the poetry into leksia; (2) Analysing the meaning of leksia into five code Barthes, the hermeneutic code, the code semantics, the symbolic code, the code proairetic, and the cultural code; (3) Categorization of meaning concerning the representation of workers; (4) Make the conclusion of all meaning with regard to workers. The analysis finds: (1) Labor is poor; (2) Labor portrayed experienced physical and psychological exhaustion; (3) Workers are described as having a low level of education; (4) Labour described as having an unhealthy condition of the body; (5) Labour depicted committing criminal acts; (6) Labor portrayed often in debt to moneylenders; (7) Labour described as a cause of poor impression, dirty, noisy, and crowded in an environment; (8) Labour has portrayed the problems of life, such as the eviction of home, health costs are expensive, and the indifference of the government; (9) Workers were treated badly by the company. They were searched on suspicion of smuggling. Women workers were forced to eliminate the appearance of feminine. Labour never had a wage increase. If workers protesting or demanding, then they would be fired; (10) Workers work at the factory conditions are not conducive; (11) Labor experiencing physical violence by the security forces or the military during a demonstration; (12) Labour alienated from the grandeur of the city; (13) Led the Labour vote in the general election in the interests of a class; (14) Workers use as a theatrical for entertainment and criticism of the injustices inflicted on them; (15) Labor associated with plantation slave laborers during the Indonesian occupation.
