    Abstract

DETECTION OF BACTERIA Staphylococcus aureus AND FUNGI AND TOTAL PLATE COUNTS ON IMPORTED SECONDHAND CLOTHES IN SURAKARTA Asfarina Aulia Study Program of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta ABSTRACT Nowdays many secondhand import chlothes are sold. Contamination of bacteria and fungi from the chlothes can cause a variety of health disorders. Disease can be started by direct contact to the skin or transmitted by human hands which then carry an infection through the mouth, nose, and eyes. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria can cause boils, acne, and wound infections in human skin. While fungi can cause itching, allergies and even infection in the genital tract. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the number of bacteria and fungi, to know there is bacteria S. aureus and fungal on imported secondhand clothes in Surakarta. Samples were taken randomly three stores of imported secondhand clothes in Surakarta. From each store, researcher took a t-shirt, a polo shirt and a pant. Samples were analyzed and identified in Laboratorium Kesehatan Yogyakarta. Staphylococcus aureus was detected with braid parker agar (BPA). Detection of fungi used culture methods by using dextro Sabouraud agar (SDA). Media the number of microbes in the samples was determined by using TPC (total plate count) in plate count agar (PCA) media. Data were presented in tables and images then analyzed descriptively and narrated. The result showed that Total plate count of samples is under 250cfu/ml. It was indicated that a polo shirt sample number 3 of code 020073 contained S. aureus in the point 2. Mold was found in t-shirt sample number 2 code 020063 in point 2. Yeast was not found in the secondhand imported clothes. Keywords: secondhand import clotches, Staphylococcus aureus, fungi, total plate count
