    Abstract

    Poly (propylene) itaconate/ tetraetil orthosilicate (PPI/TEOS) have been synthesized from itaconic acid, 1,3–propanediol with addition of tetraetil orthosilicate (TEOS) and zinc acetate dihydrate as catalyst with direct esterification and vacuum polycondesation method. TEOS was added in 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5% to 1,05 (% mol of acid). PPI/TEOS has been used as coating material on glass with thermal curing method at 170 °C for 8 hours and ultraviolet radiation curing method used 1000 Watt UV lamp. PPI/TEOS was analysed with infrared spectrophotometer (FTIR), UV/Vis spectrophotometer, TG–DTA/DSC, SEM, and acid resistance. Research’s aim is to know addition TEOS effect for PPI as coating to its transparency and termal properties. The result of infrared spectra indicates that PPI/TEOS was formed chemically, Si–O–Si peak absorption was appear at about 1090 cm-1 wavenumber, absorption of C=O was appear at about 1700 cm-1, and absorption of C–O was appear at about 1042 cm-1. The results of UV/Vis spectrophotometer, PPI/TEOS as coating indicates that maximal wavelength movement because of addition TEOS and difference curing method. PPI/TEOS has good transparency with average transmittance persent is about 94%. The results of SEM showed that surface morphology of PPI/TEOS tend to form spherical particle. PPI has better resistance of H2SO4 10% than PPI/TEOS 5% that checked from amount and size of nanohole forming. The results of TG-DTA/DSC, termal stability of PPI/TEOS 2% and 5% worse than PPI that checked from mass degradation in Td10%, and Td50%. PPI/TEOS 5% have two endothermic peaks in the melting point (Tm) and PPI/TEOS 2 and 5% have bigger enthalpy than PPI.
