    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Chalifah S81809204. Implementation of the School-Based Curriculum of Social Science at State Junior Secondary School 1 of Jatipuro, Karanganyar. Thesis: The Graduate Program in Educational Technology, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta 2016. The objectives of this research are to investigate: (1) the implementation of the integrated Social Science learning; (2) the teacher’s role in the development of the students’ creativity ability; (3) the learning materials used in the integrated Social Science learning; and (4) the selection of learning media by Social Science teacher which is useful for the students of State Junior Secondary School 1 of Jatipuro in the field of integrated Social Science. This research used the qualitative descriptive case study. It was conducted at State Junior Secondary School 1 of Jatipuro, Karanganyar Regency in Academic Year 2015/2016. The sources of the data of research were informants, events, and documents. They were collected through in-depth interview, observation, and content analysis. They were validated by using triangulation technique and analyzed by using the descriptive model of analysis. The results of research are as follows: 1) The implementation of integrated Social Science at State Junior Secondary School 1 of Jatipuro uses the School-Based Curriculum. The members of the team which drafted the curriculum are elements of the school and the school committee under the coordination of the Office of Education of Karanganyar Regency. The plan of Social Science learning is drafted by using the integrated learning model with the webbed or thematic type. The draft of integrated Social Science is done by all of the Social Science teachers of the Subject Matter Teachers’ Forum. The sequence of activities includes mapping the competency standards and basic competencies; formulating indicators; developing the drafted syllabus; designing the lesson plans for Integrated Social Science; implementing the learning, which is executed by a single teacher. 2) In general, in the learning process the students’ activeness is very much prioritized by following the educative principles, namely: meaningful learning activity, teacher who creates situations that encourage initiatives, motivation, responsibility, and creativity of students. They can be shown in the students’ active role in the integrated Social Science learning. 3) The learning materials of integrated Social Science at the school use the packages from the Office of Education of Karanganyar Regency which include Sociology, Geography, History, and Economics subject matters. To develop the learning materials, the teacher uses the other relevant learning resources such as news from televisions, newspapers, magazines, internet, and environment. 4) The use/selection of the learning media and the use of the selected learning media which are packed as interaction tools between the students and the teacher make a learning activity more effective and meaningful for the learners and result in the students’ activeness in the teaching and learning process. Thus, the teacher’s professional ability in the integrated Social Science learning shall be improved. In addition, Principal of the school can improve the school’s culture as a part of understanding on the integrated learning model for Social Science teachers, learners, learning materials, and media/learning facility as mandated in the learning pattern according to the School-Based Curriculum.
