    Abstract

    People of Indonesia is a plural society that owns many ethnicities, cultures, and religions which are always have an interaction between one and another. This differences somehow always igniting conflict inside the society. bali’s people are mostly embrace Hindu religion, which makes the muslim becomes the minority. In dusun wonosaba, there are a group of newcomers who still hold Javanese culture and also embracing Islam. Despite the difference values that exist, they still lives together in harmony. This study intends to understand the communication relation that occurs between the newcomers and the indigenous, also how to manage the potential conflict between the two. This study is being conducted in Dusun Wasanari, Denpasar, Bali with descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. The data source for this research is doing in-depth interview so the people there would give the most factual data. Sample is being taken with purposive sampling method, particularly maximum variation sampling. And to analyze the data, writer use interactive analysis Miles and Huberman (1994) with three stages consist of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion withdrawal until verification. This research concludes that: 1. Communication relation that develops between newcomers and indigenous people primarily related to business, trade, and security affairs. 2. The way to approach the people that mostly being used here to manage potential conflict is integrative approach with intercultural competence focus, with tolerance , empathy, and positive thinking. 3. There is a strong impression that tradition have a solid role to sustain the communication relation between newcomers and the indigenous people. The tradition here is ngejot and menyama braya.
