    Abstract

THE IMPROVEMENT OF STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILLS USING PROBLEM BASED LEARNING MODEL ON BASIC COMPETENCE OF REPRODUCTION SYSTEM AT CLASS XI MIPA 1 OF SMA NEGERI 3 SURAKARTA IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016. Thesis. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sebelas Maret University. November 2016. The research aims to improve students’ writing skills using Problem Based Learning Model on Basic Competence of Reproduction System at class XI MIPA 1 of SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta in academic year 2015/2016. The research is Classroom Action Research, consist of three cycles. Each cycle consist of planning, action, observation, and reflection step. Subject of the research is 29 students at class XI MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta in academic year 2015/2016. Data was collected through documentation of students’ work report in every phase of Problem Based Learning model. Data validation was done by triangulation method. Data was analyzed describe qualitatively, with Miles and Huberman model include data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data was analyzed with Mclean, et al rubrics based on content and context of students’ written product. The result showed Problem Based Learning model improved students’ writing skills. The percentage of students’ content aspect in pre-cycle/cycle I/ cycle II/ cycle III is Level 1 score 2, score 3 (70,58%; 29,42%)/ Level 1 score 2, score 3, score 4 and score 5 (18,64%; 47,03%; 25,85%; 8,47%)/Level 1 score 2, score 3, score 4 and score 5 (10,78%; 41,18%; 35,78%; 12,25%)/Level 1 score 2, score 3, score 4 and score 5 (11,76%; 29,41%; 43,89%; 14,93%). The percentage of students’ context aspect in pre-cycle/cycle I/ cycle II/ cycle III is Level 1 score 2, score 3 (82,35%; 17,65%)/ Level 1 score 1, score 2 and score 3 (4,24%; 43,64%; 52,12%)/Level 1 score 1, score 2, score 3 and score 4 (4,41%; 33,82%; 51,96%; 9,8%)/Level 1 score 1, score 2, score 3 and score 4 (2,71%; 19,46%; 63,35%; 14,48%). The conclusion of the research was students’ writing skills improved using Problem Based Learning Model on Basic Competence of Reproduction System at class XI MIPA 1 of SMA Negeri 3 Surakarta in academic year 2015/2016.
