Abstract
Aerodynamic characteristics can be controlled by modifying the shape of the vehicle or using aerodynamic parts. A semi-trailer truck models already modified by using vortex trap device to create trapped vortex in the gap. Vortex trap device are mounted on the front of the trailer and simulated by using finite element method. Steady state analysis already done at the speed range from 40 km/h to 120 km/h with an interval of 20 km/h. This numerical analysis is already done by using CFD software, ANSYS Fluent 14.5. The results showed that using 5 panels vortex trap has the lowest drag coefficient at a speed of 80 km/h with a Cd value of 0.723. Overall, 6 vertical panel is the best configuration has a lower drag coefficient in every speed range, while 7 panels will increase the drag coefficient of the model semi trailer truck
