    Abstract

THE APPLICATION OF MISSOURI MATHEMATICS PROJECT LEARNING MODEL TO IMPROVE THE MATHEMATIC COMMUNICATION IN THE 7THA GRADERS OF SMP NEGERI 2 MOJOLABAN IN TRIANGLE AND RECTANGLE MATERIAL IN THE SCHOOL YEAR OF 2015/2016. Thesis, Teacher Training and Education Faculty Sebelas Maret University. September 2016. The objective of research was to improve the mathematic communication of the 7thA Graders of SMP Negeri 2 Mojolaban in the school year of 2015/2016 through applying Missouri Mathematics Project learning model. This study was a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research was conducted in two cycles, each of which consisted of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The subject of research was the 7thA Graders of SMP Negeri 2 Mojolaban consisting of 32 students. Data and data source derived from students, teacher, and learning process. Techniques of collecting data used were observation, test, and documentation. Data validity test was carried out using researcher (investigator) triangulation. Data analysis was conducted on the data resulting from the observation on the learning implementation and on the data resulting from the observation/test on the students’ mathematic communication. The research model used was Missouri Mathematics Project one. The result of research showed that the application of Missouri Mathematics Project learning model could improve the mathematic communication in the 7thA Graders of SMP Negeri 2 Mojolaban in the school year of 2015/2016. It could be seen from (1) the result of written mathematic communication test of 48.39% in pre-cycle, increasing to 67.74% in cycle I and to 77.42% in cycle II; this gain had exceeded the specified target of 75% and (2) the result of mean score from the observation of written communication of 1.75, increasing to 2.32 in cycle I and to 3.05 in cycle II; this gain had exceeded the specified target of 2.51. It could be seen from the result of written test and oral mathematic communication observation sheet. The conclusion of research was that the application of Missouri Mathematics Project could improve mathematics communication of the 7thA Graders of SMP Negeri 2 Mojolaban in the school year of 2015/2016.
