    Abstract

A Correlation Study on Habit in Watching Animation Movies, Vocabulary Mastery, and Writing Skill of The Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 4 Surakarta in The Academic Year of 2015/2016.English Education Department.Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Sebelas Maret University. Surakarta. 2016. The objectives of the study are to determine the correlation between (1) habit in watching animation movies and writing skill; (2) vocabulary mastery and writing skill; and (3) habit in watching animation movies, vocabulary mastery, and writing skill; and to predict the contribution of habit in watching animation movies and vocabulary mastery toward writing skill. This study used correlation study. It is carried out in May 2016 at SMA Negeri4Surakarta. The population of this study was all the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Surakarta which consists of ten classes. The total number of the students was 320 students. The sample for this study was 31 students taken by cluster random sampling technique. The instruments for collecting the data were questionnaire and test. Questionnaire was used to collect the data of habit in watching animation movies and test was used to collect the data of vocabulary mastery and writing skill. The techniques which were used to analyze the data were Simple Correlation and Multiple Regression and Correlation. The results of the data analysis show that at the level of significance α = 0.05 (1) there is a positive correlation between habit in watching animation movies and writing skill (rx1y = 0.4935, to = 3.0556>tt = 1.7); (2) there is a positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing skill (rx2y = 0.5067, to = 3.1647>tt = 1.7); (3) there is a positive correlation between habit in watching animation, vocabulary mastery, and writing skill(Ry12 = 0.0.7370and Fo = 16.65> Ft = 3.34). From that result, habit in watching animation movies and vocabulary mastery are important factors that give contribution to writing skill. The students’ habit in watching animation movies gives 24.35% contribution to students’ writing skill and students’ vocabulary mastery gives 25.67% contribution to students’ writing skill. The students’ habit in watching animation movies and vocabulary mastery give 74% contribution to students’ writing skill. In conclusion, this study shows that habit in watching animation movies and vocabulary mastery are important factors that can improve students’ writing skill.
