    Abstract

    The aim of this research is to study the effect of welding pin profile and preheating distance in friction stir welding (FSW) process on the mechanical properties and micro structural of aluminium sheet 5052 welded joint using depth of plunge 3,90 mm. FSW process uses milling machine and the welding tool material is Bohler K100 with hardness 59HRc. Parameter machine are used rotation of welding tool 1125 rpm, welding rate 60mm/minute with welding pin profile variation cylindrical, two flat side and three flat side and also preheating distance from 60 mm, 70 mm, 80 mm adn 90 mm. The testing done are tensile test, bending test, hardness test, macro and micro structural examination. The results showed that the highest tensile strength is 213,360 MPa on pin profil three flat side and preheating distance 60 mm. The highest buckling strength for face bending methode is 425,309 Mpa on pin profil three flat side and preheating distance 60 mm , while the highest buckling strength for root bending is 426,191 Mpa on pin profil three flat side and preheating distance 60 mm.
