    Abstract

    Engineering Faculty of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) was founded to accomplish three objectives. Two of them are to carry out research and devotion to society. As an education institution that has tendency toward excellency, Engineering Faculty of UNS always needs the best practice of management to guarantee the efficacy of its objectives accomplishment. One of the best practice of management which has been widely known is the implementation of computerized system to be used in collecting, saving and processing the data to produce the information that will support the institution in organization strategy planning and making the organization decision effectively. At this time, the data of research and devotion to society in Engineering Faculty of UNS has been managed conventionally. The institution has been using manual system in collecting, saving, and processing the data. The manual system has produced several problems for the institution. Among of those problems are the excessive workload for administrator to manage the data and the difficulties which must be faced by the stakeholders (Leaders of Engineering Faculty of UNS, Lembaga P2M UNS, Lecturers of Engineering Faculty of UNS, and public society) in order to access the data. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a web based information system to manage Engineering Faculty of UNS data of research and devotion to society. The method which is conducted in the system development will be included three steps: system analysis, system design, and system evaluation. Among of the tools that will support the development are: rich pictures to describe the whole system, use case diagram to define the system requirements, entity relationship diagram (ERD) and database schema to construct the database model, and PHP, MySQL and Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax) to transform the design into a real website. The result of this thesis is a web based information system which has three main function: serving data input, data processing, and data searching.
