    Abstract

    The aims of the research are to know : (1) whether the application of contextual teaching and learning through short films can improve the students' physics learning motivation (2) whether the application of contextual teaching and learning through short films can improve the physics cognitive student’s abilities. This research is a Classroom Action Research that is held in two cycles. The cycles are started by preparation phase and execution phase that consist of action planning, action, observation, evaluation, and reflection. The research subject is X.3 Wonogiri 1 Senior High School students in the school year of 2009/2010, which is consist of 33 students in the subject matter Heat and Temperature. Techniques of collecting data are observation, interview with teacher, test, questionnaire and documentation. Descriptive qualitative technique was used to analyze the data. Based on research results, it can be concluded that (1) the application of contextual teaching and learning through short films can improve students' learning motivation in the subject matter Heat and Temperature of X.3 Wonogiri 1 Senior High School student in the school year of 2009/2010. It can be seen from execution of cycle I and cycle II. At first cycle, the percentage attainment of student’s learning motivation indicator aspect was 66.97% and increased became 68,95% at second cycle. It has exceeded the target 60% which has been decided. The attainment of student’s classical learning activities was 70,50% at first cycle and then increased became 78,50% at second cycle. It has exceeded the target 60% which has been decided. (2) the application of contextual teaching and learning through short films can improve the physics cognitive student’s abilities in the subject matter Heat and Temperature of X.3 Wonogiri 1 Senior High School student in the school year of 2009/2010. It can be seen from execution of cycle I and cycle II. At first cycle, the student’stolearning completeness was 30,30% and then increased became 66,67% at second cycle. It has exceeded the student’s learning completeness target was 60% with minimum completeness limit value was 67.
