    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Triana Ulfa Nur Aziza. R1115088. Effect of Therapy with Mozart’s Classical Music on Dysmenorrhea Level of Female Students in Grade X of State Senior Secondary School 5 of Surakarta. The Study Program of Diploma IV in Midwife Educator, the Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta Background: The reproductive health problem frequently experienced by teenage girls is dysmenorrhea. There are many ways done by females to deal with it, and one of them is listening to classical music. The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of therapy with Mozart’s classical music on dysmenorrhea level of the female students in Grade X of State Senior Secondary School 5 of Surakarta. Method: This research used the quasi experimental method. Its population consisted of 92 female students undergoing dysmenorrhea. Samples of the research consisted of 40, and they were taken by using the quota sampling technique. They were divided into two groups, 20 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group respectively. Its data were collected through Mozart’s classical music media, and the dysmenorrhea level was measured with the observational sheet of pain level. The data were analyzed by using Mann-Whitney Test. Result: The average dysmenorrhea level of the experimental group was 1.7 whereas that of the control group was 5.7. The result of Mann-Whitney test shows that the significance value (p) was 0.000 (p<0.05), meaning that there was a difference of dysmenorrhea level between the experimental group and the control group. Conclusion: There was an effect of therapy with Mozart’s classical music on the dysmenorrhea level of the female students in Grade X of State Senior Secondary School 5 of Surakarta with the significance value (p) of 0.000. Suggestion: The therapy with Mozart’s classical music may become an effective handling used by female students when they experience dysmenorrhea so that it does not disrupt their concentration learning achievement.
